Opinion polls indicate most voters agree with Green Party congressional

candidates, not Dems/GOP on opposition to war in Iraq

SACRAMENTO - Green Party candidates for Congress appear to be the only real

choice for the majority of voters in the state because Democrat and

Republican representatives continue to refuse to denounce the war in Iraq,

according to national and state opinion polls released this week.

An Associated Press poll released this week said that a majority of

Americans overall - and 80 percent of Democratic voters - were opposed to

the Iraq War.

However, unlike Green Party congressional candidates who oppose the war

outright,  Democratic and Republican candidates have failed to hear the

opinion of Americans and continue to support the occupation of Iraq.

And, in a Field Poll, also released this week, a majority of Californians

think Congress is doing a poor job. Only 33 percent approved of Congress'

work. This news would also seem to favor more votes for Green Party

candidates for Congress.

"We need Congressional leaders who recognize the moral bankruptcy of war and

who have the courage and resolve to find other ways to solve global

problems.  The Green Party is the only party in the United States today with

that courage and resolve," said Pat Driscoll, Green Candidate for Congress,

5th CA (Sacramento).

"At some point in time there will be a powerful nation that will say to the

world 'we have tried war to solve our differences on the planet and have

failed,  now is the time to try a cooperative, peaceful, nonviolent

approach.' That time is now. That country can be America," said Gary

Waayers, Green candidate for Congress, 50th CA (San Diego).
