If you're looking for reactionary behavior, the Bush appointees provide some
fascinating examples. They are invariably drawn from corporate/ legal life-
and have long histories fighting progressive issues.

 Gale Norton at the Interior Department  wants to open national monuments to
 drilling coal mining, and foresting

 John Negroponte, "your" representative at the UN, tied to death squads in
 the Guatemalan military. Supervised American Contra operations and was
 involved in Iran Contra. Long history of stone walling Congressional
 committees.

 Otto Reich, assistant Secretary of State for inter American affairs with a
 long Iran Contra history. He remains unindicted, despite evidence that he
 misled Congressional committees.

 David Lauriski - ex-mining company executive , who has fought mine safety
 improvements, was nominated for the post of  Assistant Secretary of Labor
 for Mine Safety and Health.

 Recycling foe Lynn Scarlett as Undersecretary of the Interior.
 She proposed a $2 trillion tax cut, of which 43% will go to the wealthiest
 1% of Americans.

 Vice President and millionaire oil exec Dick Cheney says:"If you want to do
 something about carbon dioxide emissions, then you ought to build
  nuclear power plants." ("Meet the  Press.")

 Diana  Roth insists there is no gender gap in pay for women: to the Council
 of Economic Advisers.

 Kay Cole James - an opponent of affirmative action - to direct the Office of
 Personnel Management, which considers "affirmative action questions."

 Jeffrey Sutton - attorney responsible for weakening the Americans with
 Disabilities Act- to the Federal Appeals Court bench

 John Bolton - who opposes nonproliferation treaties and the U.N. - to
 Undersecretary of State for Arms Control and  International Security.

 Linda Fisher - an executive with Monsanto - for the  number-two job at the
 Environmental Protection Agency. Monsanto is a legendary opponent of
 government regulation and anti pollution legislation.

 Michael McConnell - critic of the separation of church and state - to the
 Federal bench.

 Terrence Boyle - opponent of civil rights - to the Federal bench.

 Harvey Pitts - lawyer for teen sex video distributor to head SEC.

 John Walters - strong opponent of prison drug treatment programs - for Drug
 Czar.

 J. Steven Giles - an oil and coal lobbyist - for Deputy  Secretary of the
 Interior.

 Bennett Raley -wants to repeal the Endangered Species Act - for Assistant
 Secretary for Water and Science.

 Ted Olson- who has repeatedly lied about his involvement with the
 reactionary millionaire Scaiffe-who funded the "Arkansas Project" to bring
 down Clinton.   For Solicitor General.

 Bush canned Forest Service chief Mike Dombeck and appointed a timber
 industry lobbyist.
