While diligent individuals endeavor to maintain their personal good health
and prevent illness, obscure political forces control the quality of our
air, water, food, and disease prevention, not to mention foreign policy.
Frequently government set standards that are insufficient to protect the
public's health and make choices that put us at risk. Too often influence
is bought through campaign donations or "friendly" junkets. It has become
necessary for the diligent to seek non-medical solutions to protect our
health and that of our family and friends. Having good health is the
highest quality of life and the most affordable.

Among several; concerns, I am writing to seek your active support for  two
timely non-medical solutions.

Fossil Fuel dependent transportation significantly impacts a bundle of key
issues: personal and planetary health; economic and political security;
sustainability, fairness and equity. The link between heavily polluted
areas and increased hospitalizations, premature deaths, and chronic illness
is well established.  Initially expensive, asphalt roads have ongoing and
constant maintenance costs. The supply of oil is vulnerable politically and
economically. Yet local governments continue to throw money at roads
facilitating more vehicular grown rather than using our scarce resources to
establish clean, efficient transit systems built to last.

Over the next two years voters will be asked to dedicate sizable tax moneys
to transportation. Learn about the Rural Transportation Authority, the I-25
Corridor Plan, and the transportation tax issues before your communities.
Tell your elected representatives what you think. Visualize clean air,
clean water, healthy food and peace. Make it a mantra.

Finally, as a candidate for Larimer County Commissioner, I am asking for
your vote. Presently all three Commissions represent one political
perspective with an allegiance to the "private property rights" contingent.
I would like to represent those of you whose voices are not currently
heard, bring a fresh, innovative perspective into the political mix, and
make the doings of County Government more visible.
